INTER REGIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012
It was an honour to get picked for this one representing the midlands, we arrived in Milton Keynes on a chilly but bright day, I was certainly happy there was no rain like the last Nationals. boy that was cold day. Both myself and Josh got our kit on ready for the event and made our was way down the morning race was already going ahead, Josh was racing at 11.30 with mine starting at 1.30 , Josh's race went well with no problems and pushed hard and enjoyed it. 12pm was the pre lap warm time, So myself and Greg Simcock my racing friend took the opportunity to do a lap. Covered in mud we parted and got our stuff ready for the pits , someone had been steeling bikes in the morning so I needed josh on the case of pit monkey which he loves doing.
At 1.10 we started to get grinding all the A in a line going back the us the B team behind them with me in the front of mine. Then team mates Mick Davies n Mike Welburn behind me then team C with Ian Wright n others. The gun went off and we were away I closed the gap on the A's n passed the back A rider then Phil Blacker which was short lived when he passed me later on in that lap but the idear was to ride at your own speed so I did , the course was banked grass all the way with a few straight run offs, Sweeping n tight slippery corners. My tyre pressure of 20psi was not good I felt like the front tyre was slipping off n slowed me up knocking my confidence so swapped bike after 3 laps which had champion grifo pros as to the Rihno tubular and they were mint , so good having a diff bike set up. I kept up n behind Steve Knight for a bit till the running took its toll. On one section of triple tight corner of deep mud section my legs were giving up maybe running as part of my training would benefit me, I felt like walking on my knees but kept going hold all but no 42 off who passed me Then I passed him game but could not hold him off as we both did the last decent though him n another's flew off there bikes and we then sprinted for the line with him clearly ahead already.
21st seems high to me but the 60 of the best riders are here form all the regions.
I stayed ahead of most of the riders I knew par Greg Simcock who is getting to be a legend at cross. Along with Darren Atkins my team mate for this event, who was gone at the front too finishing a good few minutes ahead of me.
By all account everyone said it was a tough event ,So I did very well considering but feel I my fitness still needs to come on a bit. In prep for XC season fast coming apon us.
